Petersburg Symphony display at PAAL in February
February 12 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm| free
In celebration of Black History Month, the PSO will have a display of historical memorabilia at the Petersburg Area Art League (PAAL) during February in the first floor gallery. We hope you can stop by some time to take a trip down memory lane. Opening night is during Friday for the Arts on February 12, 2021 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. Several solo PSO musicians will play during that evening.
PAAL is also open on Saturdays from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, and the PSO exhibit will be on display through March 6. PAAL is located in Old Towne at 7 East Old Street, Petersburg, 23803. Parking is available for free in several parking lots and on streets near PAAL in Old Towne Petersburg.
The PSO is a diverse community orchestra making music for the Tri-cities region and beyond since 1978. Founded by Dr. F. Nathaniel Gatlin (below left), distinguished educator at Virginia State University, the PSO has now been led by Music Director Ulysses Kirksey (below right) for over 30 years. According to 2016 statistics from the League of American Orchestras for similarly sized orchestra organizations, 3.6% of the conductors were African American and 20.4% were people of color.
