Pamplin Historical Park & The National Museum of the Civil War Soldier in Petersburg, VA, is commemorating fallen military members this Memorial Day with a temporary exhibit, programs, a battlefield tour, and a ceremony on May 29, 2023. The day’s events include a Civil War soldiers’ camp life presentation, a film screening honoring the Air Force Academy’s tribute to Memorial Day, a Breakthrough Battlefield Tour, a ceremony featuring the U.S. Army color guard, remarks from the Park’s Executive Director, a cannon fire salute, and the playing of TAPS. Bill Stallings will present “Music that Moves the Military” on the parade ground, and the Battlefield Center will screen “War So Terrible,” a film about two Civil War soldiers. A special display of multiple Medals of Honor, including one awarded to Louis Cukela, will showcase design changes and medals for each branch of service. Sponsored by the Bank of Southside Virginia and Strosnider Chevrolet, this Memorial Day remembrance will close on June 1st. Regular admission prices apply, with discounts for seniors, military personnel, and children.
