Grant’s Cabin at Appomattox Manor

Part of Petersburg National Battlefield, the beautiful grounds of Appomattox Manor in City Point is situated high on a bluff overlooking the confluence of the James & Appomattox Rivers. This site is one of the oldest European settlements in America and served as the headquarters of the Union Army during the siege of nearby Petersburg during the Civil War. General Ulysses S. Grant’s cabin still stands there. Lincoln also visited the site during the siege in 1864-5. Pick up a brochure at the Visitor Center in Hopewell, as well as a map for the self-guided walking tour of the surrounding neighborhood.

The grounds, with wayside exhibits are open during daylight hours. Grant’s Headquarters at City Point visitor center will be open Friday thru Sundays for the months of June, July, and August.
