City Point Open Air Museum

City Point, the oldest part of Hopewell, named in 1613 by Sir Thomas Dale.

Storyboards are accessible for 25 sites, with the most well-known being:

  • General Grant’s Headquarters on the grounds of Appomattox Manor
  • St. John’s Episcopal Church & Cemetery
  • Shiloh Lodge (a former African American Masonic Lodge),
  • Stunning views of the James River, with significance to native American Indians, early settlers, the Revolutionary War, the civil war, and today’s preservation efforts.
